This means...

  • Coaching is inclusive
  • We don't coach teachers based on whether they are 'effective' or 'ineffective'

Components of Coaching Cycles

  • 4-6 weeks long
  • 1 co-planning session per week
  • 1-3 co-teaching sessions per week

Four Rounds of Coaching Cycles

  • Round 1: October to early November
  • Round 2: Mid-November to early December
  • Round 3: January to Mid February
  • Round 4: March to Mid-April

What if I'm in more than one school?

Strategies...

  • Use data to allocate time in schools
  • Rotate your time thoughtfully
  • Survey teachers and principals to determine interest

The role of the coach is clearly defined.

This means...

  • The principal & coach develop a shared vision for coaching.
  • Everyone understands that vision.

Coaching is separated from evaluation.

This means...

  • Coach avoids walk throughs and checklists
  • Coach stays focused on the teacher's goal for student learning

Coach & principal model themselves as 'learners'.

This means...

  • We are open minded and flexible in our thinking
  • We understand (and value) the complexity that is inherent to teaching and learning
  • We avoid quick fixes
