BRONCHITIS

  • Bronchitis is a respiratory disease.
  • Bronchitis affect the bronchial tubes which become irritated and inflamed.
  • It makes the membranes swell and narrow air ways.
  • There is acute bronchitis and chronic bronchitis .

SYMPTOMS

  • Coughing with clear, yellow, or green mucus.
  • Wheezing.
  • Low fever.
  • Tightness in chest.
  • Shortness of breath.

HOW IS IT CONTRACTED?

  • It is caused by a viral or bacterial infection.
  • Usually the bacteria that cause colds and the flu.
  • Irritation from pollution, smoke, dust, and other irritants.

IS IT CONTAGIOUS?

  • If caused by a viral infection, it is.
  • If caused by irritants, it is not.

HOW MANY CASES IN THE US?

  • 8.7 adults million in the past year.

DO TEENAGERS GET BRONCHITIS?

  • Yes.
  • 10 million teenagers get bronchitis annually.

HOW IS BRONCHITIS TREATED?

  • If it is a bacterial infection, a doctor may prescribe antibiotics.
  • The doctor also tell you to get plenty of rest, fluids, and take aspirin.
  • If it is chronic bronchitis then the doctor may prescribe oxygen therapy.
  • The doctor may give you medicines to open your airways.

IS THERE A CURE FOR BRONCHITIS?

  • There is no cure but there are treatments.
