Questions
Hi My name is Brooke Hackett, and I’m a Big Picture student at Kurri Kurri High School. I have a big opportunity to get out into the workforce quicker than what I can in mainstream. I joined Studio School because I didn't think mainstream was best for me, and thinking I wanted to go out and be a childcare worker. I’m not sure that’s what I want to do anymore but it’s 50/50 that I want to be a childcare worker and the other 50 that I don’t want to be, I'm looking at doing childcare for a starter job and for an LTI but you never know due to it may turn into a full time job.
1. In the next six months, I’d like to learn about more of how the workforce works and what you need to know and get some tips off my mentor and see if she can help me with general stuff that happens in the workforce.
2. In the next two years, I’d like to learn about…
3. In the next five years, I’d like to see myself with a good job and in an appreciative relationship, and a job that can give me a decent amount of money and not a little bit.
What should people never make fun of?
- People should never judge for who you are because you could be going through a tough time and they might not know what but they will sometimes or most of the time criticize you by judging and making fun of you for who you are.
What makes you laugh?
- Everything that I find funny makes me laugh and there's some people that me laugh in general.
What was everything you accomplished this week regarding your project?
- I wrote an emails and sent them to Chelle Van and Chez, to ask some questions about soccer and how to become a professional soccer player. Just about my entire family has said that I could go far in soccer if I put my mind to it, and funny they say that because that is my project this term.
Do you need to be a certain level for Soccer to be an Australian/ Matildas Player?
How many games will I be playing?
How much effort do I need to put into it?
How much does it cost for the year?
What playing skills do you need to know before going on the field to play?
This Term I am researching more about soccer and what you need to know to get into the Australian women’s team or the Matilda’s women’s soccer team.
I will have to talk to Brooke Kennedy that played for the Australian Women’s team, I will have to talk to my step-mum that played for the Australian women’s team to get more information and see if they have anything to tell me or what I need to know.?
Researching Personal ProjectTerm 3- Learning more about Soccer.
Project Researching
Information found:
In Soccer, you can’t use your hands, you can get pulled up for yelling or
swearing at the ref and if you say “MINE” the opposite team gets Free kick because you have to say, “YOUR NAME”.
When you play soccer you can sometimes get injured in women’s soccer is 7.3 per 1,000 athlete exposures. The injures that can happen are: 1. Broken Bones, 2. Sprains, 3. Fractures, 4. Dislocations, 5. Concussion, you can also get MAJOR and MINOR injuries.
Continuing On Term 3- Researching more about soccer
Link of where I got the information from for Injuries and other stuff etc is

Sometimes people need to learn what OFF-SIDE is because half of the time people would go and chase after the ball to try and score but then the ref has blown the whistle and the person with the ball gets frustrated because they think that they didn’t get OFF-SIDE and that’s why people need to know more about OFF-SIDES.
My Term 3 book that I am reading Is called “Diary of a Wimpy kid Double down”
Why do I read them? I read them because they are easy, and they aren’t that hard, and they don’t have a lot of chapters. One day I am going to push myself to read a bigger because I need to read different books instead of Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.
This Term I haven’t read my book since I haven’t been able to pick up the book and read it. I don’t like reading so it’s harder for me to just everyday pick up a book and start reading. At the end of this Term I’m going to start getting in the mood of reading books.
For term 3 our Advisory project is to cook for the HOMELESS and we are going to gather recipes and cook during one of our 5th periods that we have on a Tuesday or Thursday or whenever because due to COVID we can’t go and serve we have to just drop it off to them and they mainly like sweets but we can also do like what they would generally eat.
The first step we have to do is finish the on-guard safety course before we start using kitchen tools
Every morning and Every Afternoon, basically every time we have Studio School we sit down of a morning and we do Check-ins/Check-outs. When do them we discuss stuff bout what we might do on the weekend, what we want to get finished today.
When I go on my LTI I would like to go and work at a Child Care Centre possibly start in Cessnock with my mum, and then go somewhere else where I don’t know anyone. I thought I’d start an LTI at my mum’s work so I know what I am doing and so I am at a place where I know people and get an experience before I go out somewhere else and start at a different child care centre where I know no-one.
How much it would cost?
Child Care would cost roughly around $490 per week.
LTI - Research/Journal.
Location: Cessnock Kids Preschool & Early Learning Centre
The number of employees: 20 - 30 Employees roughly.
Type of work they do: Look after little kids, they have multiple rooms for different
ages and different names for each room.
Who is the contact for the business: Kelly Stapleford
Phone number/email etc.: (02) 4990 3377 Email: director.cessnock@cessnockkids.com
What learning goals are being addressed in this activity?
Communication is a learning goal and apart of my LTI because you have to talk and communicate with people such as your boss, work colleagues and parents/caregivers.
Social Reasoning is a learning goal and apart of my LTI because you have to research and go online to do planning in your lunch breaks, go online to help parents that can’t seem to get on and more important things what Child Care workers have to do as well online.
Create a list of businesses and their contact details ready to organise and LTI:
Reading Activities:
- As being a Big Picture Student we have to read at least 3 – 4 books a year and If we don’t then we get into trouble, but we just reflect upon it and make the right decision from then onwards.
Stuff done inside and outside of School:
At school for sport I do soccer or any physical activity because I’m a sporty person.
Outside school I play soccer, I play soccer because I enjoy it, I’ve been playing soccer since I was 4 years old roughly, I love it mostly because I'm really interested in it and Want to go far in playing soccer.
When I first came Into Big Picture, I was abit nervous and didn’t want to come out of my shell, but once I got to know everyone abit more then what I did in mainstream I got more comfortable and Ms Scobie the head teacher and Robbo helped me to become a better person and get out of my shell.
With my time management for the first Term was not my best as I got settled into Big Picture as the terms went by my time management is getting better but slowly and I’ve got 3 and more amazing Advisory teachers and other Big Picture Teachers to help me with it and push me in the right direction like they always have from day 1 when I first came in here. When I go on holidays I don’t them to come sometimes because I know I’ll miss my amazing Big Picture Advisory & Big Picture teachers.
When End of Term comes I don’t want to go on holidays because I always have such a good time and the amount of time I spent with my Advisory teachers and my Advisory, it was amazing and didn’t want to leave because I knew I would miss them and the Advisory Activities we do.
An Advisory Activity We did was:
1. The hoop one where we throw hoops and we have to run to one and we can only have so many people in one and if you don’t get to a hoop your out, if you get to a hoop and then after every round they take a hoop away so then you only end up having one hoop left with 2 people. The winner gets a prize and that prize is what ever the teacher picks.
