What is the relationship between the starting height of the bouncy ball and the height of its first bounce?

MATERIALS

  • Bouncy Ball
  • Yard Stick

PREDICTION

INDEPENDENT AND DEPENDENT VARAIBLES

  • The starting height is the independent variable
  • The height of the first bounce is the dependent variable

PROCEDURE

  • Grab the ruler and have someone hold it straight up
  • Take the bouncy ball and line it up on the ruler at the starting height
  • Drop the ball and record where the ball bounces up to after hitting the ground
  • Repeat this for five different starting heights

CONCLUSION

  • For every 1 inch in starting height, there is 0.77 inches of height after the bounce.
