“Both / And” Correlative Conjunctions!
What are Correlative Conjunctions?
They are words that work in pairs...
...to join a word or a group of words...
...of equal value in a sentence.
Note that the words used for this purpose come from different parts of English.
They are used to give equal emphasis to a pair of main clauses.
Here are some
examples to study.
Notice that there are two conjunctions or word combinations in each sentence!
The word combinations in each sentence are used together as examples!
"Both/And" connect two subjects or objects!
Both the basketball team and football team are doing very well!
Both Bob and Julie enjoyed their holiday at the beach!
Sally enjoyed both the park and the zoo after!
My brother likes both the opera and dance!
He is both a gentleman and scholar!
Her paintings are both interesting and elusive!
They are both a happy and fun couple!
We are going both to the park and cinema today!
