HISTORY OF BORON
- Boron was discovered by Joseph-Louis-Gay-Lussac,Sir Humphrey Davis and Louis-Jacques-Thenard
- Independently isolated by them in 1808
- Isolated by combining Boric Acid and Potassium
- Named from the Arabic word Buraq and Persian word Burah

PROPERTIES OF BORON
- Unreactive to oxygen
- Non metallic element
- The melting point of boron is 2079°C
- Transmits portions of infrared light
- Room temperature, it is a poor electrical conductor, but it is a good conductor at high temperatures
USES
- Used in pyrotechnics and flares to produce a green color.
- Used in some rockets as an ignition source.
- Used in the control rods of nuclear reactors.
- Used in the manufacture of fiberglass insulation.
SOURCES OF BORON
- Boron ores are in China, Russia, and few other countries
- Turkey, the United States and Russia are the largest producers of boron minerals.
