POWER OF SPEECH

ANALYSIS

  • These scenes both cohere with Power of Speech because these two individuals used their advantage to influence and persuade their audience.
  • In a way, Hitler and Mr Sengupta are character foils. They both illustrate the hatred they have for their opposition clearly and do everything in their power of speech to criticize them.

SILENCE

ANALYSIS

  • How power can influence one's decision, and how small objects can symbolize such grand power.
  • How fear can be used to change somebody entirely. Also how a minimal decision can cause extreme changes (hence the zipped lips)
  • These two scenes also show how silence brings to a safe haven. The power of silence can scar somebody forever but shelter them, and keep them free from future harm

FREEDOM OF SPEECH

ANALYSIS

  • Both of these scenarios are similar because they show a character standing up to someone with high authority. They also show that both characters express their opinions to someone with high authority despite the punishments they might receive.

CENSORSHIP

ANALYSIS

  • Both of these scenarios are very similar because both are putting people down, and censoring them so they will not to be able to share their opinions. Although they are both censored, they have very different ways to censor. If the characters weren't censored there would be a very different outcome.
  • Hitler and Khattam-Shud both mirror themselves by censoring the opposition’s idea thus illustrating the massive power.
