"It's people like you who change history. People like me, we just let things happen to us."
-Luke to Jen

This is a quote that Luke says to Jen at a turning point at the end of this book. Luke and Jen are the main characters in the book Haddix Among the Hidden, a book with a theme that centers around injustice. This book takes place in a society that only allows families to have 2 children.

Luke and Jen

In the beginning of the story we are introduced to Luke, a forbidden third child who is hidden in his attic. Luke can be brave, but he is also afraid of change. One day he finds Jen, a daring third child girl, who wants to change the world. She believes that there is a place in the world for third children and they shouldn’t have to hide.

People must not just accept injustice, they must fight against things that are wrong.

In this story, the government limits families to 2 children to prevent overpopulation. Families with more than 2 children have to hide their 3rd child. Luke and Jen think this is wrong. What do you think?
