FRACTURES VS STRENGTH

  • During youth most fractures are from trauma that causes the bone to twist or smash
  • In old age most fractures happen because the bones are thin and weaker

TYPES OF FRACTURES

  • Comminuted: bone breaks into many fragments. ( common in older individuals because their bones are more brittle)
  • Compression: bone is crushed (common in porous bones)
  • Depressed: broken bone portion is pressed inward( typical of skull fracture)

TYPES OF FRACTURES

  • Greenstick: bone breaks incompletely, much in the way a green twig does.(common in children because their bones are more flexible)
  • Impacted: broken bone ends are forced into each other (common occurs when you attempt to break a fall)
  • Spiral:ragged break occurs when excessive twisting force is applied (common sport fracture)
