BONE CANCER

TYPE OF CANCER

  • A type of cancerous tumor that destroys normal bone tissue
  • It is very uncommon for the cancer to start in the bone
  • Starts in other parts of the body and spreads to the bone
  • Most bone tumors are not cancerous

AFFECTS ON THE BODY

  • Bone cancer makes the body red and swollen
  • Because the bones are weak they are more likely to fracture
  • The disease saps a lot of energy and resources from the body
  • Leads to extreme fatigue ness and unintended weight loss

SYMPTOMS

  • Bone pain
  • Swelling or tenderness near affected area
  • Bones break easily
  • Fatigue
  • Unintended weight loss

PREVENTION

  • Changes in lifestyle
  • Quit smoking
  • Healthy weight
  • Those things fight many different types of cancers
  • No known prevention for bone cancer specifically

Osteosarcoma BONE CANCER

  • Ages 10-19
  • People over 40 with other conditions
  • Paget disease

Chondrosarcomaf BONE CANCER

  • Older adults (over 40)
  • Risk increases with age
  • Rarely occurs in younger children or adolescents

ESFT BONE CANCER

  • Under 19
  • Affects boys more often than girls
  • Extremely rare in African American children

SCREENING & EARLY DETECTION METHODS

  • There is no accurate way to detect bone cancer
  • Report symptoms to your doctor
  • Physical exams
  • Biopsy or blood tests
  • Imagining tests
