Bodie Island Lighthouse

The Bodie Island Lighthouse was built in 1872. It is 165 feet tall and 24.54" wide

The Bodie Island Lighthouse is located in Dare County North Carolina. The lighthouse was built here because the vessels in it's area are very hard to navigate at night.

The materials that they used to make the lighthouse were, granite, brick, cast iron,stone, timber framing and, Rubble Masonry.

Fun facts about Bodie Island Lighthouse,

  • The Bodie Island Ligthouse restoration made it possible for you to gain acces to the entrance of the lighthouse and tour it for a fee.
  • the height of each black stripe on the Bodie Island Lightouse is 22 feet.
  • There is 214 steps that spiral to the top of the Bodie Island Lighthouse.

The Bodie Island Lighthouse was named after the family that suggested the idea to build it. The name Bodie was Originaly spelled Boady.
