THE PROBLEM

  • Transport cookies over 1,400 miles down Mississippi River.
  • Companies Largest Barge was damaged in a storm.
  • Replace with a watercraft that will support the most boxes of cookies.

THE CHALLENGE

  • A representative from the Mississippi Cookie Company has contacted you to design a model of a boat that will support enough weight to transport their cookies from Minneapolis to New Orleans.

THE mATERIALS

  • Popsicle sticks
  • Aluminum foil
  • Glue
  • Straws
  • Paper
  • Masking tape
  • Pennies = the mass (cookies)

THE COST

  • Lumber (popsicle sticks) 5
  • Sheet Metal (alum. foil) 30cmx30cm
  • Welding Materials (glue)
  • Reinforcements (plastic straws) 4
  • Cable/Rope (masking tape) 1 m
