COMMUNICATION

I was impressed with the number of communication options available to users, but I was also concerned that I would spend every semester explaining to my students how to turn on and off the options and hearing their excuses for not getting my notifications about missing assignments or class in the lab because "I just can't figure that communication thing out."

Sometimes, sharing control is not a really good thing . . .

COLLABORATION SPACES

I was intrigued with their use of the word "collaboration." What they have is a forum, not a "collaboration space." A collaboration space is a virtual area where my students can put a project, then work on it together--not a place where they can discuss an issue or an idea. That is a forum.

Maybe I misunderstood what they were saying? . . .

CALENDAR

They did this right. It is a very useful tool.

COURSE CREATION

Again, this is a strength. they were the first to create an LMS, and they know how to do this right.

INTEGRATION OF OTHER SYSTEMS

Wow. I was really disappointed by this part of the talk. The lack of integration with social networking and other systems (like Wordpress) really puts them behind the times in instructional technology. I know that, in my own classes, I need my students to build a professional Twitter network, a Wordpress blog, share Google Docs, make surveys, and understand how to use Linked-in and Pinterest. These are important skills for success in today's economy--they are not an "extra"--they are essential.

SHARING CONTENT

Very well done.

RELEASE OF NEW VERSIONS

I loved their flexibility. Nice that we can have the control to decide on how this is updated.

POLLING/CLICKERS

REALLY? No mobile phone integration for this yet? There are a plethra of very useful, free apps I can use right now with my students and their mobile phones. (Socrative, PollEverywhere, GoClass . . . and that's off the top of my head!!)

GRADING

I thought this was the strongest part of their presentation.

ANALYTICS

Seriously, the whole world is analytics, and we need data BIG TIME for accreditation, research, grants, etc. To keep their data class focused and charge for departmental and school analytics is just . . . (I'm a lady, I won't say it.)

LEVELS OF SUPPORT

Um. Uh. Um. Uh.

Wow. You have an online video. Nice.

By the way . . .what do we do with EVERY FRESHMAN CLASS and EVERY NEW PROFESSOR????
