The Black Plague is a bacterial disease caused by the parasitic Yersinia Pestis.

THE 3 TYPES

  • Bubonic
  • Septicemic
  • Pneumonic

BUBONIC

  • In your immune system
  • Swollen lymph nodes

SEPTICEMIC

  • In your bloodstream
  • Black fingers, toes, and nose
  • Dead tissue

PNEUMONIC

In your lungs

If you aren't treated 1-2 days after symptoms occur, infection can be fatal.

MAIN SYMPTOMS IN HUMANS

  • High fever
  • Headache
  • Weakness
  • Painful lymph nodes, chest pain, or abdominal pain
  • Cough or bloody cough

SYMPTOMS IN DOGS

  • Will occur 2-7 days after dog was bitten
  • Fever, Inflammation
  • Excessive pain from swollen lymph nodes

Main Carriers

Rats, Squirrels, Mice

The Yersinia Bacteria is transmitted to dogs when an infected flea bites them, or when they ingest an infected rodent.

LOCATIONS

The Black Plague is most common in the southwestern United States. (Arizona, New Mexico, California)

PREVENTION

Completely eliminate fleas from your home.

Avoid rodents and fleas.

Do not handle sick or dead animal bodies.

Stay 3 ft away from anyone who may have the lung form of plague. (pneumonic)

TREATMENT

As soon as your doctor suspects that you have plague, you'll receive 3 antibiotics.
