WHAT ARE BLACK HOLES?
Black holes are defined as places where gravity is so strong that light can't escape.
They are formed after a massive star collapses.
They can grow when two black holes collide.
Their masses vary greatly.
They are not holes.
3.
History
They were first predicted by Simon LaPierre in 1796.
They were first observed by the Hubble Telescope in 1994.
Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity helped to explain the immense gravity of black holes.
Carl Schwarschild determined a method of finding the size of black holes.
