The Black Christmas Bushfires were bushfires that burned for almost three weeks from 25 December 2001 across nsw. It was the longest continuous bushfire in NSW history. The bushfire happened because of low rainfall in spring. Lightning and arsonists were the main cause of the bushfires after that. They ended on the 7th of January 2002 after heavy rain in Sydney. Outbuildings destroyed 433
Vehicles destroyed 222 Stock destroyed 7,043 Beehives destroyed 243
Other buildings (commercial industrial) destroyed 33

LIST OF IMPENDING DANGER OF BUSHFIRES.

  • Arsonists can light dry pine needles on fire for fun.
  • People who smoke can be very oblivious and drop a cigarette w/out snuffing.
  • Droughts are when it has not rained for a while and the earth is dry enough to light.
  • When lightning hits this dry ground, the sheer power of the lightning creates a flare.
  • Ovens: there are some very bad cookers on this earth which goes onto the dry earth.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES TO TAKE BEFORE

  • Put together a survival kit and place it near the door or an easy access place.
  • Have a place where you and your family can meet and have a meeting.
  • Buy a lot of dehydrated food, canned food or jerky that won't spoil.
  • Check your fire forecast on the news to see the chance of bushfires.
  • Get the app "FIres near Me" to see where the nearest bushfires are.

A knife to cut up food
A fire blanket for precaution
Lots of tinned food
A compass to see where you are. Some money
A water bottle. Some rope
A battery powered radio + some spare batteries
A flashlight extra clothes valuable documents
Mobile phone+ charger medication if needed
Woollen blankets and first aid kit

Evacuation Procedure
Have already set up a meeting place to go to preferably far away from houses and not under trees. Have survival kit near door and grab little kids if needed. Make sure no one panics as you have hopefully gone through this before the event. Walk quickly out of the door before calling the fire department and DO NOT go back inside. Count to make sure you have everybody. Remember to grab your pets!
