According to “The Psychology of American Racism” by Sandra Feder, “Many people, especially White people, underestimate the depths of racism,” Rizzo said. “A lot of attention is rightfully put on the recent murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and far too many others. But people need to understand that those horrific events are a consequence of a larger system. We want readers to walk away with a better understanding of how that system works.”

Racism is not always an individual issue, but rather one that has been systemically implanted into today’s society. ‘Systemic And Structural Racism: Definitions, Examples, Health Damages, And Approaches To Dismantling’ by Paula Bravemen discusses that Racism is not always conscious, explicit, or readily visible—often it is systemic and structural. She goes on to state that, ‘Examples include residential segregation, unfair lending practices and other barriers to home ownership and accumulating wealth, schools’ dependence on local property taxes, environmental injustice, biased policing and sentencing of men and boys of color, and voter suppression policies.’

Famous African American author Richard Wright depicts the hardship and struggle of African Americans in his works, particularly novel, black boy. In his writings, he examines the issues of racism and injustice. As it is true, the plight of African Americans was quite pitiful. In Black Boy, racism is examined as both an evil ideology possessed by an evil person and an evil problem woven into the very fabric of society.
