TAY SACHS DISEASE

CAUSE

• Tay Sachs Disease is inherited.
• Babies who have it are born without an enzyme that controls sight,hearing,movement, etc.
• 16 people are born with it each year.
• Ashkenazi Jews are the most common carriers of it.
• If both parents are carriers, there is a 25% chance that their child will have the disease.

TREATMENT

• No treatment
• Only make patient more comfortable
• Children who have this disease die by age 4 or 5

PREVENTION

• People who know they are carriers should get a blood test to see if their future children are at risk
