Anophthalmia is a birth defect in which a baby is born without one or both eyes
Anophthalmia is caused by genetic abnormalities
There are no known symptoms. A mother carrying a child with anophthalmia would have no signs.
This defect can only be detected early on an ultra sound
The only known treatment is reconstructive ocular plastic surgery
