Seasonal loss of leaves enables plants to avoid damage during harsh winter freezes. When longer days and
warmer temperatures return, leaves regrow and plants resume photo-
synthesis.
Some animals, like most
birds, migrate to warmer areas until the winter passes. Instead of mov-

species, hibernate.
Farming, mining, hunting, logging and urbanization are some of the human activities that
have affected negatively this biome, resulting in biodiversity loss, pollution,
deforestation and habitat loss and fragmentation.
