WHAT IS ENERGY

  • Using chemical or physical resources to
  • provide heat, light and electricity

BIOMASS ENERGY

  • Material gathered from living or recently
  • living organisms
  • Can be gathered from plants and animals

HOW CAN BIOMASS ENERGY BE USED

  • Biomass can be used in many ways in our daily lives
  • Heat our homes
  • Run our cars

HOW DO WE USE IT NOW

  • Corn to make fuel for cars
  • Plant materials to make electricity
  • Make liquid fossil fuels to power electricity to power our homes
  • Soybeans for biodiesel

HOW DOES IT EFFECT WHERE WE LIVE

  • Can affect the air by adding toxins
  • The amount of water used to make energy
  • because it takes a lot of water and some
  • environments don't have that amount of water

HOW DO OTHER PEOPLE ACT TO US USING THIS ENERGY

  • 10% of global primary energy
  • It is accepted that much more energy services can
  • be obtained from biomass energy than other fuels

GOOD THINGS ABOUT BIOMASS ENERGY

  • Reduces Greenhouse Gas emissions
  • Reduce the dependence of foreign oil
  • Supports U.S. Agriculture and forest-produce industries

BAD THINGS ABOUT BIOMASS ENERGY

  • Releases Carbon Dioxide into the air
  • Carbon penalty that takes years to regroup
