PRESENTATION OUTLINE

DEFINITION

  • biological diversity in an environment as indicated by numbers of different species of plants and animals

DEFORESTATION

  • Deforestation occurs around the world, though tropical rainforests are particularly targeted. NASA predicts that if current deforestation levels proceed, the world's rainforests may be completely in as little as 100 years.

CAUSES OF DEFORESTATION

  • To make more land available for housing and urbanization
  • To harvest timber to create commercial items such as paper, furniture and homes
  • To create ingredients that are highly prized consumer items, such as the oil from palm trees
  • To create room for cattle ranching

Untitled Slide

  • Deforestation not only hurts different climates around the world, it also poses a big threat to the plants and animals that live within the forest.

EFFECTS

  • Loss of species
  • Water cycle
  • Soil erosion
  • Life quality

DECREASE ON NUMBER OF SPECIES

  • Earth has lost half of its wildlife in the past 40 years Creatures across land, rivers and the seas are being decimated as humans kill them for food in unsustainable numbers, while polluting or destroying their habitats. More than 99 percent of all species, that ever lived on Earth are estimated to be extinct

Why should we protect biodiversity???
