  • Defintion: Change in the composition of a community over time
  • Example: Primary and Secondary Succession

BIOTIC POTENTIAL

  • Definition: Highest possible rate of increase for a population
  • Example: Reference conditions are a representation of the biotic potential for lakes in the absence of human activity or pollution.

CARRYING CAPACITY

  • Definition: Number of individuals environment can support
  • Example: How any people can fit on a life boat.

AUTOTROPH

  • Definition: Produce organic nutrients for their own use
  • Examples: Plants, Algae

HETEROTROPH

  • Definition: Need to consume food for energy
  • Example: Herbivores, Omnivores

HERBIVORE

  • Definition: Eats Plants of algae
