There are around 600-700 bilbies left in the wild around in Australia they are commonly found in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. They are extinct in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia
Lesser bilbies were brought to Australia when the Europeans came in 1887 and the extinction of the lesser bilby was in 1950's was when the last Lesser Bilby was recorded.
Bilbies are vulnerable because they are almost extinct and because they only live for 6-7 years in the wild and 11 in capacity, this makes them vulnerable to extinction because they are snakes, cats and foxes nutrition for them to survive
People are trying to save bilbies by finding research on how they breed do there can be more bilbies so they have fundraisers every couple of months to do research. The members of bilby recovery team decided to put a fence up and to move all foxes and cats in a measured radius and keeping bilbies in capacity to keep producing.
