WHERE DO THEY ORIGINATE FROM?
Lions originate from Europe, Asia,
Alaska, Northern America and Africa.
Tigers originate from Asia.
Leopards also originate from Asia which means
they all shared some territory in Asia.

TYPES OF BIG CATS
There are 2 'types' (genus) of big cat:
1. Panthera: (lion,tiger,panther and jaguar).
These types of cats can roar.
2. Acionyx: (cheetah). The cheetah makes
a high pitched (but short) 'scream'.

MAIN BREEDS OF BIG CATS
Cheetah
Lion (african/Asian/mountain)
Jaguar
Leopard (clouded/Amur)
Tiger (Bengal/Siberian)

WHAT DO THEY EAT?
All big cats are carnivores which is
why they have huge teeth and short
,strong jaws for eating flesh.
Tigers eat deer, buffalo and antelope.
Lions eat wildebeest, zebra and antelope.

FACTS
Lion's eyes are 6 times more sensitive to light than ours.
Amur leopards can leap up to 3m high.
Cheetahs run up to 70mph, they're the fastest land mammal.
Tiger cubs live with their mother for 3 years then live alone.
Lions can be up to 3m long from nose to the tail tip.

ENDANGERED?
Big cats are extremely endangered
as they are hunted for their coats,
paws and teeth. To help big cats
there are numerous charities. One
being WWF that helps tigers and leopards.
