Due to the technological revolution, the world has changed and is continuing to change at a rapid pace.

Interestingly enough, education is lagging behind. If a teacher from 100 years ago would enter a classroom today, he would still be able to teach. On the other hand, if a doctor from a 100 years ago would enter a hospital, he would have no idea how to do his job! So we need to rethink our teaching approach and join the 21st century.

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Our Teaching Approach

Due to the technological revolution, the world has changed and is continuing to change at a rapid pace.

Interestingly enough, education is lagging behind. If a teacher from 100 years ago would enter a classroom today, he would still be able to teach. On the other hand, if a doctor from a 100 years ago would enter a hospital, he would have no idea how to do his job! So we need to rethink our teaching approach and join the 21st century.

Distracted Students

The student population has changed as well. We now try to lecture to a group of distracted students who are more interested in looking at their mobile phones or computers than in listening to what we have to say.

Innovative Teaching

It's time for us, as teachers, to develop more innovative teaching methods using evidence-based research from the fields of neuroscience and cognitive psychology and not teach solely on intuition.

Our approach needs to be more learner-centered and we need to leave our classroom every day and ask ourselves - "What did my students learn today?" vs. "What did I teach today?"
