Benazir Bhutto became the first female prime minister of Pakistan in 1988.

Benazir was born on June 21, 1953, in Karachi, Pakistan, the child of former primer minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

She grew up to become a beautiful young lady and she went to the United Kingdom where she studied at Oxford university from 1973 to 1977, completing a course in international law and diplomacy.

Her family experienced tragedy in 1980 when Benazir's brother Shahnawaz was killed. Her other brother ( Murtaza ) died 1996 (while his sister was in power ).

Benazir's Bhutto married a wealthy landowner, Asif Ali Zardari in Karachi on December 18, 1987. They had 3 children: son Bilawal and two daughters, Bakhtawar and Aseefa.

She inherited leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party after a military coup overthrew her father's government.

In 1988 she was elected 1st female prime minister of a Muslim Nation.

She died in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007. Benazir was killed when an assassin fired shots and then blew himself up after an election campaign rally.
