The Creation of Adam

  • It is part of the Sistine Chapel roof

  • Shows god giving life to adam
Michelangelo spent so much time up painting the roof that when he would take his boots off some of his skin would fall off too. Michelangelo sometimes slept and ate up doing the roof so he wouldn't have to go down. Sometimes the wet paint would fall off and land in his eyes

MODERN ART

Michelangelo's Creation of Adam influenced modern times by inspiring modern art. "the creation of the muppets by the ever brilliant retro parody artist James Henson surrounded by his muppets as he reaches out to the muppet mascot, kermit the frog" [Darrel].

Michelangelo's creation of Adam inspired James Henson to make the piece you'll see in the next slide.

Untitled Slide

in this picture you see James Henson reaching out surrounded by his muppets to touch fingers and give life to kermit the frog which is his main character.

Michelangelo has also influenced pieces like The Creation of Mario. "The creation of Mario" by Tsaoshin is a homage piece that tries to show Miyamoto's influence on Nintendo's portfolio and on the gaming industry as a whole" [Darrel]

Michelangelo also influenced the piece the creation of Mario which you'll see in the next slide.

Untitled Slide

here you see Tsaoshin piece called the creation of Mario where she is surrounded by all her Nintendo characters. And shes reaching out to touch Mario to bring life to his character

TELEVISION AND MOVIE

ET

in this poster you can see how the ET finger "phone home" relates to the "creation of adam."

in the creation of Adam it shows god reaching out to touch Adam to bring life to his body. but in the ET version the alien reaches out to the boy to touch fingers so he can heal the boys cut.

"The John Alvin promotional movie poster makes a direct reference to the “spark of life.” Whereas, the fingers of God and Adam don’t quite touch–a detail specifically intended to create visual tension–the fingers of E.T. and Elliot actually depict the “spark.” The religious parallels of life, death, and resurrection, are also relevant to the film."[Darrel]
