Slide Notes

Cowboy Bebop is an anime from 1998 by Sunrise Animation. The series's theme, plot and characters will be discussed in the deck.

I chose this as my first deck to make because I wanted to truly make a deck that I cared about, and this show is one that I will always remember and probably re-watch time and time again. I've already watched through it at least 3 times and I keep coming back to it every few years.

Thank you, enjoy the deck!

The Theme

Space Western
The plot follows a group of bounty hunters in the year 2071, when space travel is simpler than it is to travel across the globe today.
A major focus on western themes made it very popular to western audiences, especially in the US.
With a theme that allows the show's deeper plot to develop slowly is probably more appealing to western viewers.
Many of the episodes are stand alone and can be watched in any sequence, but there is in the end a very exciting, emotional and riveting story following the crew of the Bebop.

 The cAst

Characters and Voice Actors alike
A brief description of each major character, not revealing any development or spoilers in this section.
Spike Spiegel (voiced by Steve Blum) - a gunman and martial artist whose tongue is as fast as his hands, also a great pilot of his standalone fighter, the Swordfish II.
Jet Black (voiced by Beau Billingslea) - owner of the crew's mother-ship, The Bebop, is an ex-cop with a cybernetic arm whose skills, like Spike, lie in fighting and shooting, but also in repairing and maintaining the ships.
Faye Valentine (voiced by Wendee Lee) - a late member of the crew, a woman with a mysterious forgotten past, will she learn of her lost past, will she remember? Watch to find out.
Edward (voiced by Melissa Fahn) - another late addition to the Bebop crew, a comic-relief hacker whose genius hides behind the craziness that is Radical Edward.
Ein - not a human, but a member of the crew in my opinion, providing for some interesting situations, this dog has to be one of the coolest corgi's I've ever laid eyes on.
Vicious (voiced by Skip Stellrecht) - a ruthless, bloodthirsty piece of Spike's past who is catching up to him faster than he knows it.
Julia (voiced by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn) - a mysterious woman from Spike's past

The Music

Yoko Kanno and The Seatbelts
Yoko Kanno formed the band called The Seatbelts for the purpose of performing the jazz-rock ballad that drove the pace of the series itself.
Without the music that backed each scene, whether it was a space dogfight, showdown in the street, Edward, well, being Edward (Mushroom Samba) or even just a moment of a character staring into the depths of space the music always drove the emotions that the scene looked to instill in the audience.

The Ending

Spoilers Ahead
Please Do Not Read If You Are Afraid Of Spoilers.
You Have Been Warned.
I'm going to briefly type something else so that someone who does not want spoilers does not accidentally read too far.Okay good.
The ending of the show was one of the most emotionally intense moments of my television experience. When Spike goes to Mars, finds Julia and faces his past I was so excited to see a positive future and a happy ending for him, but that feeling did not last long. When Julia is killed by Vicious's henchmen Spike loses the one part of him he wanted to keep, and from there he knew only one path, face Vicious and put an end to him. As Spike begins to leave, Faye stops him and the exchange an interesting conversation about the past and its effect on the present. It is shortly after that the crew divides and goes their separate ways, it is this moment that I was hit hard with the feels. During Spike's assault on the Red Dragon Syndicate (the gang that Vicious now leads), he is severely wounded, but is aided by one of his friends from the Syndicate who wished that Spike would've become the leader instead. After reaching Vicious, a short duel decides the fate of the two men, Spike's pistol versus Vicious's katana. With a killing blow to Vicious, Spike is further wounded, but leaving victorious he descends the stairs to the lobby where many of the Syndicate henchmen have amassed. Spike looks down on them, points his finger in the shape of a gun and utters his last breath, "Bang."

This was the single most amazing ending of a show, movie, book, you name it, I have ever been able to experience.

THe Legacy

After the show ended, an animated Movie was released in 2001 (Japan) and 2003 (US). Rumors of a live action movie began in 2008, but the rumors were proven false in 2009.
The series has earned the recognition that I believe it deserves being named Best Anime time and time again by various websites and critics is proof enough that Cowboy Bebop truly is the Best Anime to this date.

If you have not yet experienced this amazing show, please go check it out.
Anime fan or not, you will not be disappointed!!
