The Declaration of Independence

1. 5 men agreed to sign even though they knew that they were committing treason
(revolt against the government)
2. John Hancock was the first person to sign it and he signed it BIG!
3. After John Hancock signed, John Adams, Roger Sherman, Philip Livingston, Thomas Jefferson, & Ben Franklin signed it along with many others

The Declaration of Independence continued...

4. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in only a few weeks
5. Jefferson was 33 years old when he wrote the Declaration of Independence

Washington Crossing the Delaware

Surprised by the attack from the Patriots, the British had to surrender 1,100 men. Washington crossed the Delaware on Dec. 25 1776
