  • Occured in the Philippine Sea and Marinas

WHO FOUGHT IN BATTLE

  • United States and the Japanese fleets

MAJOR US GENERALS

  • Raymond Spruance lead the US as admiral
  • Along with vice admiral Marc Mitscher

MAJOR JAPAN GENERALS

  • Admiral Soemu Toyoda made most of the decisions in the battle
  • Vice admiral Ozawa and vice admiral Kakuta

HOW LONG WAS THE BATTLE

  • The Battle of the Philippine Sea lasted just one day
  • 1994 June 19- June 20
  • It is also called the "Marinas Turkey Shoot"

WHO WON

  • This was a decisive US victory annihilating the Japs

HOW DID THE SOLDIERS FIGHT

  • This was a complete air and sea battle
  • Using aircrafts, carrier boats, and battleships the Japanese seding a fleet of 35 aircrafts that would be shot down in an hour
  • The Japanese sent 2 more fleets with the majority of them being shot down quickly
  • The US went on the offensive seeking out Japans carriers and battleships and destroying them

CASUALTIES/DAMAGE

  • The US only lost 1 battleship and 123 aircrafts
  • Overall the Japanese had 2 carriers sunk, 2 oilers sunk and approximately 600 aircrafts destroyed
  • There is no record of the loss of soldiers

BATTLE SIGNIFIGANCE

  • Is one of the largest aircraft fights in World War 2

EFFECT ON WAR

  • A decisive US victory allowed Allies to stay on the offensive against Japanese forces
