The first battle of the Civil War is very important so that each side can show how strong/ powerful each of their armies are.

The battle of Fort Sumter happened at Fort Sumter near Charlestown in South Carolina. It took place on April 12-14, 1861. It was a very short battle since it lasted only two days. It was short because Fort Sumter was under siege with only 85 men and a small amount of firearms. The confederates had about 500 men so they easily outnumbered them. The confederate army won with no casualties on either side.

The advantage of winning this battle is that the Confederate army is already beating the Union army by winning the first battle.

Two unique things about this battle are that it was the first battle of the Civil War and Fort Sumter was in the Charleston Harbor.
