The Battle at Fort Ticonderoga took place at Lake Champlain (north-eastern New York)

May 10, 1775 there was a small militia group called Green Mountain Boys led by Ethan Allan and Colonel Benedict Arnold.

The Mountain Boys had planned a dawn attack on the British territory. There were nearly 48 British soldiers.

It was really early in the morning when the militiamen were crossing the river to Fort Ticonderoga. Some of the men were ahead of the others. Ethan Allen had given them the command to attack. There we fewer than 100-militiamen.

The militiamen had captured the British garrison. No one was killed so it is also known as the siege of Fort Ticonderoga. The Green Mountain Boys had looted the fort from their artillery, and canons. The artillery would later be used in the siege of Boston. This was Americas men first win of the Revolutionary War.

The Battle at Fort Ticonderoga was a morale booster for the American troops. Fort Ticonderoga now would serve as the staging grounds for continental troops, before they invaded British-held territory in Cananda.

Later in 1776 some small warships led by Benedict Arnold had fought the Battle of Valcour Island on Lake Champlain. In 1777, Fort Ticonderoga had then again became British territory.
