BACKGROUND
- Type 1 diabetes is where the body can not produce insulin
- Mostly occurs in younger people
- Type 1 is hereditary
- Extreme thirst, frequent urination, and weight loss

SCIENTISTS DISCOVERING INSULIN GENE
- While scientists experimented on pigs by taking out their insulin
- They used the pigs insulin for the humans but they had diabetics pigs running around and dying
- The scientists then found that there was an insulin gene
- They put it with bacteria and it causing it to multiply overnight
- Then they separated the bacteria from the insulin and used the insulin
BACTERIAL INSULIN MAKER
- The bacterial insulin maker is surgically attached to the pancreas
- It is shaped like an 8 on the pancreas and it uses bacteria to make insulin
- It makes insulin by the insulin gene attaching to the bacteria and multiplying
