How can we as referees put them into action?

EVERYONE PLAYS

  • Play 3/4 of the game
  • Our role:
  • We record each player’s play time on the field and in the goal

BALANCED TEAMS

  • Similar ability teams
  • If the score is headed toward a greater than 6 goal differential
  • At a break in play - Hey coach - remember the no blowout guidance
  • Coach should have a plan!

OPEN REGISTRATION

  • Some players are more challenging to referee than others
  • Open the lines of communication with the coaches
  • Take a beat before reacting

  • PIE
  • Positive
  • Instructional
  • Encouraging
  • Use these words to remind a coach who has forgotten for a moment

GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP

  • Respect for:
  • Coaches/Referees/Players/Spectators
  • Introduce yourself to the coaches and shake hands before match
  • Speak respectfully - even when giving a card!
  • Remind players of expectations during check-in Safe/Fair/Fun

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

  • Help younger players learn Laws of the Game
  • Especially, when there are changes like this season!
  • Understand the laws yourself - and communicate them clearly
