COMPRESSIBLE

  • to press together;force into less space

MELTING

  • to become a liquid of sorts;dissolve

FREEZING

  • approaching at or below the freezing point

EVAPORATION

  • To change from a liquid or solid state to vapor

CONDENSATION

  • The result of being made more compact or dense

SUBLIMATION

  • to convert (a solid substance) by heat into a vapor, which on cooling condenses again to solid form, without apparent liquefaction.

PHYSICAL CHANGE

  • a usually reversible change in the physical properties of a substance, as size or shape:

CHEMICAL CHANGE

  • a usually irreversible chemical reaction involving the rearrangement of the atoms of one or more substances, resulting in the formation of at least one new substance

PRECIPITATE

  • to fall to the earth's surface as a condensed form of water; to rain, snow, hail, drizzle, etc.

PURE SUBSTANCE

  • pure substance or chemical substance is a material that has a constant composition (is homogeneous) and has consistent properties throughout the sample.

MIXTURE

  • A substance made by mixing other substances together

HOMOGENEOUS MIXTURE

  • A solid, liquid, or gaseous mixture that has the same proportions of its components throughout any given sample

HETEROGENEOUS MIXTURE

  • Has components whose proportions vary throughout the sample

FILTRATION

  • Any of various mechanical, physical, or biological operations that separate solids from fluids (liquids or gases) by adding a medium through which only the fluid can pass. That fluid is called a filtrate.

CHROMATOGRAPHY

  • The separation of a mixture by passing it in solution or suspension or as vapor (as in gas chromatography) through a medium in which the components move at different rates
