TEMPERATURE RANGE

  • The Atlantic Ocean has temperatures that range from below -2 ° C and varies with different regions.
  • In deeper waters, the North Atlantic temperatures can vary from 2.5°C at the very bottom to 5°C.

MOISTURE LEVEL

  • Deepest trench is at 8,605 metres in the Laurentian Abyss.
  • The Atlantic takes up 29 percent of the Earth's water surface area.

  • Atlanic ocean covers 20 percent of the earth's surface
  • It is the second largest ocean

WORLD LOCATION

  • It is located between North and South America and Europe and Africa.
  • It separates North and South Americas from Europe and Africa.

PLANTS FOUND IN THE ATLANTIC

  • Sargassum Weed
  • The algae floats around the Atlantic and is used as a nest for smaller organisms.
  • Smaller Organsims: shrimp, crabs, worms and fish.
  • The algae survives off of little rings of nutrient-rich coastal water break away and drift into the Sargasso Sea, supporting the algal growth.

ANIMALS FOUND IN THE ATLANTIC

  • Atlantic Green Turtle.
  • Lives in the warmer parts of the Atlantic.
  • Feed off of the oceans algae.
  • Uses the oceans currents to move faster from place to place.

THREATS

  • The Lionfish is the latest threat to the Atlantic Ocean.
  • It is a very toxic fish
  • It has been rapidly feeding on fish that are important to keeping the coral reefs clean.
