PRESENTATION OUTLINE
COLLEGE ATHLETES SHOULD BE PAID
College athletes put a lot of time and hard work into playing and practicing.
Sometimes they even miss class because they have games to attend.
"Although the NCAA claims that athletes are just students the NCAA's own tournament schedules require college athletes to miss classes for national televised games."
With that being said athletes will have homework to catch up on. On top of practicing 20 hours a week. That doesn't include the hours that they work.
Every night players go out and play they are putting everything on the line and risking injuries.
There have been a number of terrible injuries over the past few years. Such as the Kevin Ware injury which was very bad.
Another reason college athletes should get paid is because their coaches get paid and make at least $100,000 a year.
"Who else makes money off these near professional level athletes? First their own coaches, many coaches earn at least $100,000 per year.
Players work hard night in and night out during practices and games and the coaches get paid for standing there telling them what to do.
Also the players are the ones who draw all the attention. People don't go to the games to watch the coaches they go to watch the players.
Some people think it is unfair for college athletes to get paid because they are already getting a scolarship.
A scholarship doesn't go into the players pocket it goes towards school books and fees. A 25,000 scholarship may seem like a lot but it only covers the basics.
Someone can get a scholarship and still be broke.
