Sparta is better because...

Style of Government

• oligarchy: two kings, but little power
• performed religious ceremonies
• with strict rule
• was stable but limited new ideas

Military

• built up a helot revolt in 650 B.C.E.
• stressed discipline
• men prepared for a life of war starting at age 7

Life in Sparta

• women had more freedom than in other places
• boys were disciplined and taught to fight

Even though they did not modernize and did limit thinking, Sparta was stable and a strong military power!
