GEOGRAPHY

  • Located in Northern Spain
  • 4/5 of land is mountain
  • Agriculture is poorly developed
  • Divided into 7 east-west zones
  • Oviedo is the capital
  • Oviedo has a lot of pre Roman art
  • Main attractions are the Cathedral the palace of marquis and the university

HISTORY OF ASTURIAS

  • Was an independent Christian kingdom from 718-910 formed by the Visogoths
  • Became one Spain's autonomous communities in 1982
  • Oviedo became capital in the 9th century
  • The title prince of Asturias was usually held by princes throughout the Spanish monarchy King Henry III was the first prince of Asturias

INDUSTRY OF ASTURIAS

  • One of it's main exports is coal from the mountains
  • Steel is one of it's most important industries
  • It has a big automotive industry it produces mopeds gearboxes and shock absorbers
  • Common foods are cabrales chees, Asturian fabe, and pixin

  • America day parade to celebrate all the the Asturian emigrants to America who came back to visit
