ASPERGERS

  • Aspergers- these abnormalities found in social part of brain
  • Present at birth(you're born with it)
  • Discovered by Hans Asperger in 1944
  • No official diagnosis method - Doctors see if certain symptoms are demonstrated

symptoms

  • significant difficulty interacting with other people
  • unusually or irrationally stubborn
  • have interests they pursue with unusual intensity
  • trouble with double meanings
  • overact or underact to things affecting the senses

TREATMENENT

  • treated biologically: diet, vitamins, medication to treat brain chemistry
  • stimulants, antidepressants, neuroleptics
  • can treat, but not cure

STATISTICS

  • 1 in 500 people are affected by Aspergers. (.2%)
  • Other studies show .7% of people have aspergers.
  • 400% more men have aspergers than women
