• Thomas Edison was 84 years old when he died on October 18, 1931.

WHEN THEY BECAME DEAF

• Thomas Edison became deaf during his childhood.

HOW THEY BECAME DEAF

• Thomas Edison's deafness originated from scarlet fever and recurring untreated middle-ear infections

• Thomas Edison became a telegraph operator after he saved a three-year-old (Jimmie MacKenzie) from being struck by a runaway train. Jimmie's father J.U. MacKenzie was so grateful that he trained Edison as a telegraph operator. Edison's first typography job away from Port Huron was at Stanford Johnson, Ontario, on the Grand Trunk Railway.
