HANNA WILKE
Poses publicitarias, la idea era chocar con los parámetros de belleza: tener bello en las axilas, chicles pegados como marcas en el cuerpo (así como la publicidad mastica el cuerpo de las mujeres todos los días)
-panel of photos of herself topless, at the bottom are pictures of vulva-like forms
-this is a document of a series of performances - she walks around in an art show naked and hands out gum, to which she takes the chewed gum and sculpts them into female reproductive parts and sticks them on her body - then photographed
-SOS - emergency; wanted to get you attention - points to concern she had of women in the art world
-gum - something that you can chew on and pop it out before you throw in a new one - describes role of women
-play-on word - scarification VS starification; gum as scars - points to cosmetic surgeries, etc.; starification - she is the art star, playful element in a male-dominated art world
-her body is used as a canvas
-feminism is intrinsically more important than that of art - she is an active subject, she subverts and disrupts the flawless female body figure with scars
-space for misunderstanding - she is a beautiful woman by western standards; looks like she's strengthening the work, it'd be different if she were ugly
-original work intended as adult game of mastication for an exhibition - play-on word mastication/masturbation
