To become an art therapist you first need to have a passion for helping people. You must exercise good patience and listening skills as well as teaching skills. As well as a love for art itself.
To become an art therapist you also must have a high school degree, art degree, psychology, and a masters in art therapy. It is best to be certified by the board.
When it comes to work the workplace range is vast. One could work at a hospital, psych ward, mental institution, eating disorder facility, school, prison, clinics, treatment centers, community centers even homes!
Some of the lessons you will be teaching will cover many different areas including self-worth, dealing with pain, stress, depression, anxiety and other emotions, as well as thoughts. Next there will be overcoming challenges like disorders and illnesses physical and mental.
