TECHNIQUES FOR GREEK POTTERY

  • Use wire to cut piece
  • Create the form
  • Finish making form to let sit for 5 days
  • Then gets fired
  • After firing a glaze can be put on the piece
  • It is then fired again

HOW GREEK POTTERY WAS MADE

  • Pottery is put into form to make modol
  • Pottery than dries
  • Clay heats at high temperatures
  • Further details and designs are are on the piece
  • The Piece is once fired again

PURPOSES OF GREEK POTTERY

  • Greek pots tell us life about the Athens and Greek cities
  • Different pots had different purposes
  • Pots would be decorated with scenes from daily life
  • Greek Pottery would make decoration

  • There are many different pot shapes, these include Olpe, sieve jugs, ball crater,and volute pots.
  • These are not the only ones, all made differently with different purposes

  • Some backgrounds are turned black from the firing of the pot

  • Greek pottery has been around Since 14000 BC to today

Pottery first stared in east Asia later coming to Greece about 4000 miles away. It later spread across the world.

  • In the Days of ancient Greece, huge amounts of pottery were produced to serve all the basic needs of daily life.
  • From about 700 B.C. to 530 B.C., black-figure painting was the technique on Greek vases. .
  • Many stories are also painted onto vases.

  • Pottery can be put into many different styles
  • These styles can include bowls, pots, animals, or just about anything
  • Styles may also match culture

MATERIALS

  • Many materials are needed to make Greek pottery
  • These include clay, kiln, spoon and fork, sponge, wire, needle tool, along with a board, paint, and paint brush.
  • These tools and materials make up what needs to be used when making Greek pottery
