1.
AREA VOCABULARY
ALEX ALCAMO BLOCK 1
2.
AREA OF A RECTANGLE
To find the area of a rectangle, you have to multiply the width by the height.
3.
AREA OF A PARALLELOGRAM
To find the area of a parallelogram, you have to multiply the base by the vertical height.
4.
AREA OF A TRIANGLE
To find the area of a triangle, you take half of the base and height and multiply it by the measures of the base and height.
5.
AREA OF RHOMBUS OR KITE
The areas of a rhombus or a kite are equal to the halves of their diagonals.
Half multiplies by one diagonal multiplied by the other.
6.
RADIUS
A radius is the length of any shape.
A real life example of a radius is the bone in your arm, and also any lengths of furniture or rooms.
7.
DIAMETER
Diameter is the length of a segment in a shape.
An example of this in reality, is the equator across the earth.
8.
APOTHEM
The apothem of a polygon is the distance from the center to the side.
These are seen in real life often, if you are in the center of a pool, the apothem is the length from you to the side.
9.
AREA OF A REGULAR POLYGON
You find the area of a regular polygon by multiplying half by the apothem and the perimeter.
10.
MINOR ARC
An arc that is smaller than a semicircle.
11.
MAJOR ARC
An arc that is larger than a semicircle.
An example of this is a rainbow.
12.
CIRCUMFERENCE
Distance around the circle.
Distance around the perimeter of the earth.
13.
ARC LENGTH
The product of the ratio measure of the arc over 360 degrees and circumference of circle.
14.
AREA OF A CIRCLE
To find the area of a circle, you multiply pi by radius squared.
15.
AREA OF A SECTOR
To find the area of a sector, you multiply half by radius squared by angle of radians.
