FOOD

  • They eat 100 Lemmings a day
  • They like to eat birds too
  • They will eat berries if they need to
  • They follow polar bears and eat the bears leftovers

PREDATORS

POLAR BEARS AND WOLVES HUNT ARCTIC FOXES

LIFE CYCLE

  • Baby foxes are called pups or kits
  • Mom foxes have litters of 6 to 12 pups

ADULT FOXES

  • Arctic foxes live for 3 to 6 years
  • They are the size of small dogs

ADAPTATIONS

  • They use their long furry tails to keep their face warm
  • They have white fur in winter to blend in with snow
  • They have brownish-gray fur in summer to blend in with rocks and dirt
  • They have pointy ears which helps them hear their prey moving

THREATS

  • Humans kill foxes for their fur
  • Predators kill the foxes
  • Loss of habitat
  • Not enough prey to eat

WHY SAVE THE FOX?

  • They are part of the arctic food chain
  • Polar bears and wolves need them for food
  • If they become extinct, polar bears and wolves could become extinct
  • Then the Arctic Food chain will be messed up
