April in Germany is a secondary source because it is a memoir which is like a diary entry.

The story "April In Germany" is written in first person. I know this because the author uses the words "myself" and "I". This story is about her visit to concentration camps.

Margret Bourke-White is an America photographer. Who went to Buchenwald to photograph what was happening she covered WWII for Life magazine. She was trying to show the world what was happening in Germany. And to show what the Germans where doing to the Jews.

SUMMARY

It was a concentration camp in Germany called Buchenwald. There were many dead prisoners there. Although there were no gas chambers these people had died from disease, starving, beatings, and even being executed. The author talked about it was so awful to look at that when she was taking pictures, she was glad the camera was between her and the sight. The camera helped to make it seem like she wasn't right there at the scene.

It was upsetting to the author when the Germans kept talking about they didn't know what was happening at Buchenwald. They all knew but they didn't want to except that innocent people were being killed for no reason.

IMPORTANT PASSAGE

"You did know," they shouted. "Side by side we worked with you in the factories. At the risk of our lives we told you. But you did nothing." Of course they knew, as did almost all Germans.

This passage tells people that read the story that the German Suvilians did know what was happening but they made the choice to ignore it.
