  • Approximate length of trail is 2,200 miles

SETTLING
The mountainous terrain in the Appalachians, made it tough to settle. However, the base of the mountain range served as great farmland with rich soil. Because of this, today there are many farms and orchards. There are also many coal mines, lumberyards, paper plants, and rayon plants. Plus, there are many small businesses everywhere along and in the Appalachians.

RECREATION
There are many recreational activities in the Appalachians. Some of the main attractions are skiing, hiking, rafting, and hot air ballooning. All of these activities are easily accessible because there are mountains, rivers, lakes, and trails virtually everywhere throughout the Appalachians.
