WHAT IS ANOREXIA?

  • Anorexia is the obsessive desire to starve ones self to achieve a slim figure. Anorexia Nervosa is a potentially life threatening mental disorder.

TYPES OF ANOREXIA

  • There are two main types of anorexia: restrictions type and purging type.
  • Restricting anorexia is when weight loss is achieved by the restriction of the amount of calories.
  • Purging type of anorexia means that weight loss can be caused by vomiting up the food you ate, or using laxatives.

SYMPTOMS OF ANOREXIA

  • There are many symptoms that you can read, to indicate that someone may be suffering from anorexia. There are both physical and emotional symptoms. Some physical symptoms include: extreme weight loss, thin appearance, fatigue, etc. some of emotional symptoms are: social withdrawal, refusing to eat, etc.

PHYSICAL EFFECTS OF ANOREXIA

  • There are many effects of anorexia nervosa. Many of these physical effects can include: dry skin, headaches, frail appearance, abdominal pain, abnormally slow heart rate, and many more.

PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS

  • There are many psychological causes that can effect people suffering from anorexia.
  • Some of these effects can be, low self esteem, mood swings, clinical depression, and many more.

TREATMENTS FOR ANOREXIA

  • There are treatments that you can receive if you are suffering from anorexia. Some of these include: psychological therapy, and supervised weight gain. The biggest treatment for some people is the support of their family. You can also monitor, your general health, physical problems, and eating patterns.
